Why builders spend hours on the wrong enquiries

Unqualified enquiries cost half a day

Without basic questions up front, you find out at the site visit that the budget or timing was never there.

Good clients judge the first reply

Renovation clients compare builders on how organised the first contact feels. Fast, structured replies win trust.

Calls ring out while you're cutting

On site, with a saw or nail gun in hand, calls go to voicemail and the lead goes cold.

How it works for builders and carpenters

Set up in about 48 hours, wherever you are in Australia. You keep your number, your phone and how you work.

STEP 1

Divert missed calls

A short diversion code sends calls you don't answer to your KookaDesk line. The codes are the same nationwide on Telstra, Optus and Vodafone (see the guide). We connect your email and website form too.

STEP 2

It answers in your name

It says up front it's your AI assistant, asks your questions, and only gives the answers and prices you've approved for your area.

STEP 3

You reply with a number

You get a text with the job and the customer's preferred times. Reply with a number to confirm – for example Reply 1 for 2pm, 2 for 4pm. The customer gets an SMS confirmation and an email copy goes out for the record. No links to tap; calendar sync is optional.

What it asks your customers

  • Type of work – deck, pergola, patio, renovation, extension, framing, doors and windows, repairs, fit-out
  • Size, materials, and whether plans or approvals exist
  • Budget band (your bands) and preferred start
  • Suburb, street and state, checked against your area
  • Owner-occupier, investor, strata or builder
  • Photos or plans by SMS link

Honest about scope

It never estimates a price outside the ranges you approve. Anything structural – sagging beams, cracking walls, termite damage – is flagged for you to assess in person.

Contracts, licences and approvals vary by state

Home building licensing, contract requirements and home warranty insurance rules differ between states and territories, and so do approval pathways for decks and extensions. The assistant doesn't give legal or approval advice. It asks whether plans and approvals exist, quotes your licence number exactly as you give it, and explains your own process for quotes and deposits.

For any digging, it can remind callers that underground services should be located first through Before You Dig Australia (byda.com.au), which covers every state.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an AI receptionist cost for a builder?

KookaDesk is A$129, A$199, A$349 or A$549 per month +GST depending on call minutes (100, 300, 600 or 800) and features, the same price in every state. There's a 7-day free trial with up to 100 minutes (cancel anytime before day 7 and you won't be charged), and our first 10 customers pay no setup fee (normally A$299 +GST, or A$499 +GST on Pro).

Can it filter out jobs below my minimum?

Yes. Tell us your minimum job size, the work you don't do and your area. It declines or refers those enquiries politely and passes on the rest.

Will asking about budget put people off?

It asks for a range using bands you choose and explains why. Callers can skip it.

Does it work in my time zone?

Yes. KookaDesk runs in every Australian time zone – AEST/AEDT (NSW, VIC, TAS, ACT), AEST all year in Queensland, ACST/ACDT (SA) and ACST (NT), and AWST (WA). Your business hours, after-hours rules and the times it offers callers are all set in your local time.

Will callers know it's an AI?

Yes. It says it's your business's AI assistant at the start of every call and tells callers the call may be recorded, with the option to leave a message without recording instead.

Most of my enquiries come through my website. Does it handle those?

Yes. Every web form and email enquiry gets a helpful reply within about a minute, asking your qualifying questions.
